The fastest-growing request in our shop: shower walls made of large-format porcelain slabs — the look of marble, almost no grout lines, and a surface that genuinely doesn’t care about water. Here’s what Hartford homeowners should know.
Why porcelain in the shower
- Impervious to water — porcelain is dense and non-porous, purpose-built for wet rooms.
- No sealing, ever — unlike natural stone, there’s no maintenance schedule to keep.
- Tough — the sintering process yields a surface that resists scratches and chips.
- Any look you want — convincing Calacatta and Carrara marble patterns, concrete, even wood tones.
What’s trending
Full-slab showers that all but eliminate grout lines lead the list — cleaner to live with and seamless to look at. Marble-look slabs remain the favorite finish, matte and textured surfaces are gaining, and bolder colors are showing up beyond the traditional white.
Choosing well
Think about slip-resistant texture underfoot, large formats to minimize joints, how the color plays with your vanity and floor, and how lighting lands on darker finishes. Bring your bathroom’s dimensions and we’ll lay out the slab so the veining falls where you want it.
Installation matters more than usual
Porcelain is thin, hard, and unforgiving of shortcuts — precision fabrication is the difference between stunning and cracked. Ours is cut in-house by the same Hartford shop that handles our natural stone, and installed by our own crew. Care afterward is trivial: warm water, mild soap, good ventilation.
